Tillet Poultry Houses

by Dave

Me and one of my Poultry Houses

This is me and my hand-made timber poultry house made from redwood shiplap boarding. There's a lift-up roof section (also made from timber - NB felt roofs attract red-mite infestation and will require annual replacement). Adjustable ventilation window for hot summer nights. Ground-clearance legs to deter vermin and draught-proof vents at the front and back for everyday ventilation.

The front panel, nest boxes, perches and secondary floor are all removable for easy cleaning. I use galvanised nails for extra strength and an Autumn Gold timber treatment for protection against wood-rotting fungi and algae attack. I also make poultry runs and poultry cages using timber and 0.5 x 1.00 inch steel wire welded mesh netting (NB you must use a welded wire mesh netting for chickens as standard chicken wire netting is no deterrant for predators). I then sandwich all wire mesh edges safely between the timber frame to avoid any scratching and snagging.
