Little Hen Rescue

by Jeff Anderson
(Tasburgh, Norfolk, UK)

Two years ago I decided to re-home 4 rescued battery hens. That was the start of an epic adventure into the hen-keeping world.
Since then I have fostered abandoned chicks and used my conservatory as a hospital for injured/sick hens.

One of the best things I have done is hatched some baby chicks from eggs. It is amazing. A truly emotive experience as you act the parent to these little creatures.
I now have 11 hens and a totally ruined back garden - but it is worth it.
To see them all sunbathe, dust bath, chase insects (and each other) is so much fun.
To know I have given them some joy makes me feel proud.
