I contacted all three of cambridges main suppliers,as I was confused by lots of different terms and some said free range,yet one claimed to be the only free range,so I felt I needed to ask questions.
Only two bothered to reply to my emails and Jessies hens was first to reply and very warm and friendly.I went to visit and was met by Tom who showed me both his hens and answered my questions,but also asked me some as well,to make sure I was ready.
Tom explained to me,he did not breed his own hens anymore but brought in from a reputable seller,he explained there isolation policy and how his birds are free range by daylight hours and sleep safely in large straw filled sheds by night.I must say all birds were stunning and seemed happy and healthy.
I purchased six birds ( I wanted 12 but Tom advised me to start at six and work up when I got more experience!)Hows that for honesty! I was also able to purchase food,corn and oyster shell and straw and shavings.I saved loads compared to other advertised prices.Jessies is cheaper on food than a certain large pet store at the beehive.
All in all I can totaly recomend Jessies hens.I was delighted that if at any point in hens life that If I was unable to carry on.They take them back!As long as they are healthy and lice and disease free! Top hens and top man! first class service 11 out of 10 for going extra mile!

I purchase 10 birds this week,top seller,great service,very helpfull,we travelled from Diss as we had heard great things about "jessie's hens" and I have now seen for myself.I had prevously purchased from another unlisted breeder in cambridge,and had a bad experience.Very pleased this time and can not speak highly enough for Tom and Helen and there birds,My daughter is delighted because they are also on facebook and shecan add some pics on there.

From the initial, hesitant phone call to Tom, asking his advice on what chooks to buy, when to buy them and the usual things new chicken owners want to know,right through to buying the birds, Tom was fantastic. No question was too silly or absurd. Both hubby and I went to Tom's hen keeping course and, although hubby had already warned me that the girls would be my responsibility alone, he was really impressed with the information Tom provided. Starting with the chicken's history, physiology, diet, possible health problems and finishing with hands on treatment of some of his birds was fantastic. Tom showed us how to pick them up, hold them, check them over and even clip their wings! We couldn't be happier with the Black Gold Nera, Bluebelle and Speckledy (photo attached). He certainly knows his girls! Why go elsewhere!! Thanks Tom:o)

 Fox Attack Oh no!

I would like to say a huge thanks to Tom of Jessies Hens.One of my Hens was attacked by a fox in broad daylight on christmas day,She managed to get away and I chased foxy off,She was slightly injured,a couple of punture wounds,but she was very distressed.I rang my local vets which a answer machine directed me to a stand by vet,when I got through I was informed that it would cost £200 just to look at her!Desperate I rang Tom,He told me to bring the hen to him, he explained to me he was not vet trained but with a lifetime's experience he would advise me on what he would do was the hen his.I am so gratefull to him, he treated the wounds and gave me advice on keeping her warm.She survived and is back to her old self.
Tom's fee for Christmas day at 2pm? £0.00 He told me if I wanted to to make a donation to any animal or childrens charity to please do so!
You are a real gentleman and I am so gratefull,I can not thank him enough or recomend him enough.Total devoution to the birds and the customer! Again Thanks Tom

Jessie's hens is on the edge of Fen Ditton,and after having a senior moment discovered it was right where Tom said it was.I was allowed to see the hens which were roaming on grass and sunbathing and dustbathing,surely thats free range? I was allowed to ask numerous questions in general and on breeds,I came away with three lovely 17 week old girls who are friendly and tame already.I took advantage of the food offer,and got 3 girls and a sack of layers food for £37 Bargain. Tom gave me a card and advised me if during the entire life of the birds I could email or txt for advice or if concerned or in a emergency call anytime!
I am realy gratefull to Tom and his son Jay for there help,kindness and letting a silly old bird like me chew their ears for info!

I have now purchased from all three of Cambridge's main suppliers and have to say that without a shadow of a doubt.Jessie's blows the competitors away! Free ranging happy and stunning looking hens.I got everything I needed food,bedding,grit and the hens.There is a garden centre in the next village which is three times more than Jessie's in price.A1 service,top birds.I wont even bother going elsewear in future!

I first visited Tom at Jessies back in 2010, this was after trawling the net and speaking to several different suppliers in and around the London area.I decided to buy my first hens from Tom because I liked the way he talked, I liked his whole ethos (it's not all about the money)! There are many poultry suppliers closer to me (I live in North London) but I continue to drive to Cambridge so I can take advantage of Tom's knowhow, good prices, range of birds and his kind friendly manner. I've been back time and time again since I bought my first five hens and by this time next week I'll be up to 24 hens. I have recommended Jessies to friends as well and all of them have come back happy. Oops,I nearly forgot about my ducks. Tom has also supplied me with 4 Khaki Cambpell girls and 2 White Campbells and they are all fantastic as well.
