I WISH I WAS A CHICKEN
by ROBIN
(GLENROTHES)
When I was a wee boy I use to go to the Isle of Harris for my summer holidays. I'd stay on the croft with my grandparents. Sundays were a difficult time for me because all the families strictly followed the Sunday Sabbath. You couldn't go out apart from going to Church, you couldn't read anything besides the bible. Nobody cooked, you didn't get the newspapers, you couldn't read your comics etc. So for a wee boy I found this very difficult.
An auntie recently reminded when I was faced with this dilemma I mournfully looked out the window one day where the chickens were and said "I wish I was a chicken, at least I would be allowed out on a Sunday!!
