Black Rocks and friends...

Black Rocks and friends

In the past I have kept a variety of hens, but my personal favourite are the Black Rock breed. As they name implies they are black feathered, and they give a very constant supply of lovely, large eggs with dark beige coloured shells. They are the only breed of chicken in the UK that has never had a reported case of salmonella.

I had 140 of these beauties along with a few
'friends' and their efforts kept me in pocket money for many a long year.

Do I regret not having hens now - YES I DO - there is nothing like a home produced free range egg.

Winning a prize!
by: Jo

Absolutely over the moon at winning such a lovely book by Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall.

So totally unexpected - I feel quite overwhelmed. Certainly a good omen for 2011.

I would seriously encourage everyone to enter the next competition. It could be you!
